Lamarain church in Papua New Guinea’s Wide Bay District, New Britain New Ireland Mission (NBNIM), has been officially organised after 27 years operating as a company under Hoiya church.

More than 100 members gathered at the church grounds from June 8 to 15 to celebrate the milestone. Through small group Bible studies, house meetings and community outreach, the church saw increasing engagement and commitment from local families.

“The church began with no permanent building, no financial support and no pastor,” said Elder Ambros, reflecting on the church’s history. “But we believed in the gospel and in God’s power to grow His church.”

The week-long event featured presentations on the 28 Fundamental Beliefs led by ministers Sam Yamarak, Nathan Gaul and Gibson Yambi. The program revitalised members’ understanding of Adventist doctrines and prepared them for the responsibilities of an organised church.

“There were many challenges I faced in preparing for the organisation, including leadership issues, funding and arranging transport for the NBNIM delegation,” said Pastor Gaul, church pastor of Lamarain. “Despite all of that, the Lord worked miraculously and we were successful.”

The organisation ceremony was conducted by NBNIM general secretary Pastor Richard Koroi, with support from stewardship director Pastor Kurai Tangis and East New Britain area supervisor Pastor Gibson Yambi.

Pastor Koroi shared that Lamarain is the 15th church to be organised in the current quinquennium, with 30 company churches identified for potential organisation across the Mission. “It is a joyful day,” he said, “but also a solemn reminder of the responsibility that now rests on you as an organised church.”

In his closing remarks, Pastor Koroi affirmed the church’s new authority in conducting its own board meetings, business sessions, finances and communion services. “May God always be the head of your church,” he said.

Pastor Gaul expressed gratitude to the visiting delegation and all who contributed to the church’s journey. “I pray that God will continue to bless all of you as we continue to serve Him and His church,” he said.
