Three cases of COVID-19 have been detected on the campus of Pacific Adventist University (PAU) in Papua New Guinea.
Vice-chancellor Dr Raul Lozano said two male students and one male teacher have returned positive tests. The teacher and his family have been isolating in their home. The students and their roommates have also been isolating.
“Fortunately, the symptoms they are experiencing are not too severe,” Dr Lozano said. “They can move around in their places and there is no fever. Some mild [sore] throats and perhaps some coughing, but that is all.”
Yesterday (March 29) a health team visited PAU to conduct COVID swabs on students and staff—the results should be known in a few days.
The latest cases follow three other members of the PAU community contracting the virus—a female student, a parent of a student and a staff member—but they live off campus.
Earlier this month PAU rolled out a COVID-19 safety plan and the campus went into lockdown in a bid to protect students and staff from the worsening coronavirus situation in PNG. On Friday (March 26) it was announced that the PAU lockdown will be extended for a further two weeks.
