New Zealand Pacific Union Conference (NZPUC) president Pastor Eddie Tupa’i has provided an update on the situation in New Caledonia, following the recent political unrest in the country.
“I wish to acknowledge and thank you for your prayers and support following this difficult political unrest that has taken place in our territory,” said Pastor Tupa’i during this week’s Division Executive Committee year-end meetings.
He confirmed that all church members are safe and that church buildings and the Mission office have not sustained any damage. However, the wider community has been deeply impacted.
“As you know there were lives lost and a high level of damage right across the country,” he said.
The crisis has left many church members unemployed and emotionally traumatised. To provide support, the NZPUC health team has been offering care via regular Zoom meetings.
“What I want to celebrate today is that New Caledonia as a Mission have not given up on mission,” he shared. “Despite all that has taken place, they have continued on with New Caledonia for Christ.”
Pastor Tupa’i said he and South Pacific Division discipleship strategy leader Pastor Danny Philip are planning to visit New Caledonia next month. This will mark their first visit since the unrest began.
“Please keep praying as we support New Caledonia at this time,” he added.
