Australian Opera star Mark Vincent is headlining this year’s Sydney Adventist Hospital Carols By Candlelight on Sunday (December 11).
Vincent, who rose to fame after winning Australian reality TV talent show Australia’s Got Talent at the age of 15, is currently performing in My Fair Lady and has been working with international star Julie Andrews.
“I love doing carols and performing at the San Hospital is special because I know how important health is,” he said.
“My first public performance was as a teenager at a Victor Chang Heart Institute function, which gave me a start and belief in myself. I love being able to encourage young performers to chase their dreams.
“I grew up listening to all the beautiful arias and I feel that when I sing I really am the happiest guy on earth. All my troubles are gone . . . it’s not just about singing, it’s about telling a story.
“The Holy City is my favourite carol and I’m looking forward to sharing its story at the San carols.”
Vincent will be joined on stage by musical theatre star Amanda Harrison. The children’s concert will feature Hoot & Hootabelle from ABC TV’s Giggle and Hoot. Other performers will include acoustic duo Kartik and Jana, Adventist a cappella group Ardent Sound, the Wahroonga Adventist School Choir and Dave (Smiley) Martin and the Carols Band.
The Sydney Adventist Hospital presents the carols each year as a free gift to the community. Children’s activities and food fair kicks off at 4pm, with the main concert starting at 7.30pm. The event finishes at 9.15pm with a spectacular fireworks display.
