Barack Obama was sworn in as president of the United States on Monday in a public ceremony on Washington’s National Mall. Hundreds of thousands of people braved the cold winter morning to witness the nation’s 44th president officially begin his second term in the White House.

“[We recognise] today the beginning of the second term for President Barack Obama as he is sworn in,” said George Johnson Jr, communication director for the North American Division. “Join us in praying for him as he has a tremendous job in leading this great nation.”

As part of the inauguration celebrations, church and community leaders will join Mr Obama at a special service at the Washington National Cathedral on Tuesday. Adventist Pastor Wintley Phipps, a world-renowned vocalist, will provide a special musical item at the event. According to Adventist Today, he has also sung for five previous US presidents.
