Just do it

James 1:22

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”

Action follows belief, knowing is not achieving.

Currently, my wife and I have no TV (well, not one that actually works). So I haven’t really been keeping up with the Olympics. However, I have been reading some coverage on the news websites about some of the Australian swimming teams performance. It was reported that Australian silver medallist, Emily Seebohm, who went into the 100m backstroke as favourite, lost because she had been focussed on social media instead of concentrating on the race. She had been reading the well wishes and basically assumed she had the gold. She was disappointed to miss out.

How many of us say one thing and do another? I do all the time. Do not merely LISTEN to the word. Listening to the word, knowing the answers, hearing about how we have the eternal win—it can lull us into a false sense of security. We have to actually DO it!

Action follows belief, knowing is not achieving.
