Can I ask you a simple question? When did you last open your Bible and just read? When did you last allow yourself to let the words of Scripture sink into your soul and make you think . . . really think? Think about what has been happening in your life and why? Think about how God has revealed Himself to you lately . . . or not! Think about what is really important to you and to God?
The Word of God has a way of reaching right inside us, taking hold of us and not letting go. Its pages speak with authority. I can find encouragement; I can find instruction, love, and warning. It tells stories of people just like me whose lives show me who I can be, or in some cases who I do not want to be. There is the story of Jesus and the plan of salvation. And there is the dramatic epic of the battle between good and evil.
Once upon a time Seventh-day Adventists were known as people of the Book!
Right now, our global Church family has commenced a Bible reading plan called Revived By His Word, which will see us reading a chapter of the Bible each day until July 2015 when the representatives of the world Church gather at the General Conference session in San Antonio, Texas. By that time we will have read the whole Bible. Why not join in, or find some other way of reading your Bible. Once upon a time Seventh-day Adventists were known as people of the Book! I think we would all like that to be the case again but that can only happen if we each are people of the Book.
